After more than 6 months of hard work, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) has released the first methodological reference framework for the environmental assessment of Information Systems (IS). This is a great step to bring transparency and a common methodology in assessing IT impacts. We have taken this opportunity to update certain calculations and assumptions based on their contributions. We also reviewed the environmental indicators required in a LifeCycle Analysis (LCA) to feed and complete our SDG views. Good to know, we already comply with the reference release of Ademe’s methodology.

Numeum has published its 2023 report and 2024 perspectives for the digital industry in France.

In 2023, the digital domain continued to perform well (+6.5%). This trend is set to continue in 2024, with a slight deceleration (+5.8%).

On the startup side, the GreenTech market recorded strong growth of 39.3%, reflecting the sector’s dynamism.

The European Parliament has approved a directive banning greenwashing and misleading product information.

It regulates the use of sustainability labels and aims to make advertising more transparent in promoting the sustainability of products.

The European Council must give its final approval before the directive can be transposed into national law.

After 10 months’ work, InfraNum has published its first “Catalog of Best Practices”.

InfraNum, which brings together digital infrastructure manufacturers in France, launched the “Environment & Digital” mission in November 2022 with the aim of seizing the challenge of environmental transition and decarbonization of the industry.

Ready for a Responsible Year? 🌱

Let’s take a giant step towards a more sustainable future by becoming aware of the IT impact on our environment. 🌍

At Verdikt, we help you implement a sustainable IT approach, evaluating and monitoring all your actions.

🔍 Verdikt guidelines to design your 2024 sustainable IT roadmap:

1.SCOPE

Start by assessing the CSR footprint of your digital operations.

Identify the scope, key players and partners in your digital ecosystem.

This includes infrastructures, applications, data, teams, geography, governance, usages, investments, purchases, suppliers, etc.

Then define relevant sustainability indicators to track.

2. COLLECT

Quantitative or qualitative data – both are important!

The more managed and structured the data, the faster and easier the collection phase will be.

And don’t forget your scope 3

3.SCORE

The data collected can then be valued, aggregated and weighted to assess and then consolidate overall maturity and performance indicators.

4.UNDERSTAND AND PILOTE
Key indicators and analyses should be formatted in such a way as to facilitate understanding of the maturity and performance.

They should be presented simply and clearly, focusing on the current situation while providing a global perspective.

This will help make best practices more accessible and identify areas for improvement.
5.ENROLLING PARTNERS

Extend to your providers to account for your external impacts & initiate a virtuous approach with your ecosystem.

6.TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Communicate transparently about your commitments to sustainable IT.

Draw up a detailed report highlighting the points mastered, the areas for improvement to be considered and the conditions for their implementation, all necessary elements for managing a long-term improvement plan.

With our platform, one of our customers was able to assess its carbon footprint, revealing 600kg of CO2eq per employee and a maturity score of 23/100.

We provided key recommendations, inlcuding a comprehensive 360° assessment leading to avoiding up to 30% of CO2 emissions.

And let’s not forget long-term performance: integrating IT sustainability into a global approach, valuing continuous improvment thrgough re-evaluation over time.

So ready for your 2024 journey ?🚀
